The London Marathon has been a special event since the inaugural event held on 29th March 1981. There are equal numbers of runners who have a large and shiny collection of London Marathon finisher’s medals, as those runner who have the event on their to-do wish list but have never succeeded in the ballot. Run on iconic streets in front of thousands of fans, supporters and charity bands and crews, it is an event of unique grandiosity. Where else in the world can you sprint, limp, gallop, crawl and cry your way over the finish in the shadow of one of the world’s great palaces?
If you are a London Marathon finisher, you will have experienced the glory of the event, you will have trained throughout the winter for that glorious moment outside Buckingham Palace. You may even still get goosebumps as you approach The Mall on any other day of the year.
